With the series, Sisters in Europe: Who We Are, my original goal was to spotlight a new Black woman living and working in Europe each week. What a lofty goal! Although it’s one I have since had to revise in the meantime (and not for lack of sisters with exciting stories), I am proud to say that I’ve done portraits of an eclectic group of three very interesting women to share with you to date.
Here is a brief overview of the statistics for each of those portraits:
- Noah Sow (Germany): Journalist, musician, author, producer, activist = 292 views
- Leticia Pereira dos Santos (Italy): Student, intercultural facilitator, social activist = 166 views
- Marie Nejar aka Leila Negra (Germany): Child extra in Nazi propaganda films, popular post-World War II singer, nurse, Author = 152 views
If you haven’t had an opportunity to read (all of) the portraits, I’d like to urge you to take the time to do so! These ladies’ lives are a true inspiration on so many levels!
This series will continue in 2011 (and hopefully beyond), so check back in regularly for updates. If you know a Sister in Europe you would like to see portrayed in this series, please don’t hesitate to put us in touch with one another.
And don’t be shy about contacting me to add your story to the series!
Many thanks, too, to Adrianne George at Black Women in Europe for re-posting the portraits in this series, which has been crucial in exposing more women to these sisters and their truly inspiring stories!
